The UIS Prairie Stars softball team split a doubleheader with the Lewis Flyers in Romeoville, Ill. on Sunday.
GAME ONE (L, 10-1)
Lewis got to scoring in the bottom of the first when they sent four runners across home plate. The Flyers put up a five-run fourth inning to win by the eight-run rule. Left handed pitcher
Taylor Zawacki fell to 6-8.
The UIS offense was held to four hits including two by starting pitcher
Taylor Zawacki.
Kelsie Burrows and Ramsey Armstong picked up one hit apiece.
GAME TWO (W, 6-4)
The Prairie Stars put two points on the board to start game two.
Taylor Zawacki doubled, advanced to third on a single by
Kelsie Burrows and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Jillian Mathis. A second sac fly by
Isabella Wilson allowed
Kelsie Burrows to score.
Isabella Wilson,
Danielle Dennis, and
Ella Brinkley scored in the fourth innings to put UIS ahead by a score of 5-2. The Flyers scored one run apiece in the fourth and sixth innings but could not complete a comeback.
Kelsie Burrows led the UIS offense with three hits and two runs while
Isabella Wilson had two hits, two RBI and one run. Five additional Prairie Stars had hits as well.
Rosie Bartletti (4-2) took the win on in the circle after 4.2 innings.
UIS will travel to St. Louis on Wednesday for a doubleheader versus the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons.
