The University of Illinois Springfield men's and women's tennis teams both earned bids for the upcoming GLVC Tennis Championships, as was announced by the league Saturday night. Tournament play will begin Friday morning in Indianapolis.

The top-four teams based on highest divisional winning percentage from each of the GLVC's two divisions – East and West – earn a spot in the eight-team, single-elimination tournament. The UIS women's tennis team is the No. 3 team in the east and men's tennis team earned No. 4 seed in the east. Quarterfinal action will take place on Friday, semifinal matches will be conducted on Saturday, and the Championship match will be contested on Sunday.

UIS Men's Tennis
#1W Southwest Baptist vs. #4E Illinois Springfield | Friday, April 21 | 1 PM ET | Clark Pleasant Middle School

The Prairie Stars went 3-9 overall and 1-4 in the GLVC during the regular season and advanced on a tiebreaker over Lewis and Missouri-St. Louis. UIS had the highest percentage of matches won out of the three 1-4 East Division teams and will advance to the GLVC postseason for the fourth time in program history. The Prairie Stars will take on the West Division's top seed, the Southwest Baptist Bearcats. In a non-conference match earlier in the season on March 23, SBU defeated UIS 5-2 in Springfield.

Arthur Figuiere is 6-2 in singles play and 71st in the current ITA Division II singles rankings.

Indianapolis went 5-0 in the regular season to win the GLVC East Division title and earn the No. 1 East seed.

UIS Women's Tennis

The UIS women's tennis team went 4-8 overall and 3-2 in GLVC action during the regular season to advance to the GLVC postseason for the sixth time. The Prairie Stars are the No. 3 seed in the East Division In a non-conference match earlier in the season on March 23, SBU defeated UIS 6-1 in Springfield.

Riann Hsu is 5-3 in singles play and 5-4 in doubles play with Franca Bucco. 

Indianapolis went 5-0 in the regular season to win the GLVC East Division title and earn the No. 1 East seed. Last year, the Southwest Baptist Bearcats were shut out by UIndy in the GLVC Championship Final.

The four quarterfinal winners will compete in the semifinals on Saturday, April 22, at 9 AM ET and 2 PM ET, while the semifinal winners will compete for the 2023 trophy on Sunday, April 23 at 9 AM ET at 1 PM ET. Daily admission is free of charge.
