The University of Illinois Springfield softball team won a pair of games versus the Truman State Bulldogs in Kirksville, Mo. on Friday. UIS improved to 27-16 and 8-6 in the GLVC.
GAME ONE (W, 8-5)
The Prairie Stars hit four singles in the top of the seventh before a 2 RBI double by
Emma Garcia put UIS back in contention. UIS handled the ninth inning in similar fashion to come away with the extra innings win.
Danielle Dennis contributed three hits in the Prairie Stars' 13-hit game.
The Prairie Stars combined for five stolen bases including two by
Rosie Bartletti. UIS has 45 more stolen bases than any other GLVC softball team this season and has been successful in 125 of 144 attempts.
Rosie Bartletti improved to 5-3 after pitching four shutout innings in game one.
GAME TWO (12-3)
Ella Brinkley went 4-4 with three RBI during a strong offensive outing by the Prairie Stars.
Danielle Dennis had another 3-4 game and
Kelsie Burrows went 2-4 with three runs.
UIS scored three runs in the top of the fifth including an RBI double by
Carolyn Franke and a 2 RBI single by
Ella Brinkley. Truman State responded with one run, ending the game via run rule after five innings.
Taylor Zawacki improved to 8-8 after 4.1 innings in the circle
The doubleheader between UIS and Quincy has been postponed until Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The 15-19 Quincy Hawks are 6-8 in GLVC play and split their last two meetings versus Drury and Lincoln (Mo.) The Hawks are tenth in the current conference standings.
UIS leads the all-time series versus the Hawks 15-12.
