UIS Eliminated by Drury in Penalty Shootout

The sixth-seeded UIS women' soccer team met the third-seeded Drury Panthers in the GLVC Quarterfinals on Sunday, playing through regulation and both overtime periods without a goal on either side. UIS started the penalty kick shootout with the advantage after DU missed its first attempt, but would ultimately fall 5-4. 

Match Summary
  • Dani Auble made a great attempt in the 33rd minute in response to a string of first-half shots by DU. It was ultimately saved by DU goalkeeper Kaitlin Knetzke
  • Drury outshot UIS 20-6, but just six were on target. Allison Mirimanian came away with the save on all six
  • Three of the Prairie Stars' six shots were on-goal, two in the first half
  • Katelyn Cavanaugh made the final effort to score in the 110th minute that would be collected by Knetzke
  • Drury missed its first attempted PK while UIS made its first. UIS missed its second and the teams matched at 1-1. Both teams made the next three before DU's sixth attempt went past Mirimanian. UIS missed its sixth attempt to end it 5-4

UIS women's soccer had an overall record of 7-5-6 in 2023, with all seven wins coming in conference play after the season started with three consecutive 1-1 draws. Starting goalkeeper Allison Mirimanian played nearly every minute, totaling seven shutouts and 63 saves.

Sierra Cenek was the team's leading scorer with seven goals and two assists. Abby Dellamorte put up impressive numbers with six goals and six assists. Both had two game-winners. Eight additional Prairie Stars scored during the season, with Madison Grandys and Carolyne Mathenia each tallying two goals and two assists.
