Men’s Soccer Celebrates Homecoming with 7-0 Win Over Bearcats

The UIS men's soccer team's dominant Homecoming win over the Southwest Baptist Bearcats was one for the record book.

Game Summary
  • The scoring started in the 21st minute and never stopped for UIS as they claimed 74% possession outshout SBU 32-2 with 23 shots on target
  • Four Prairie Stars combined for seven goals, led by Brian Riordan with three. Adrian Adames, Joe Conway, and Brian Riordan scored their fourth goals of the season.
  • Joe Conway threatened a hat trick of his own, hitting it off the crossbar in the 87th minute. Conway assisted Federico D'Andrea in his first goal of the season.
  • SBU found themselves unable to clear the ball in multiple Prairie Stars attack sequences
  • Andrea Scapolo contributed two saves in teo on-target attempts by the Bearcats
  • UIS has scored 18 goals while shutting out its opponents through the first six games of its GLVC schedule
The Record Book
  • Brian Riordan's hat trick was just the third in the program's DII era. Riordan joins Zachary Allevi and Nikita Fadeev on that list
  • UIS has scored seven goals in a single game just one other time in the team's DII history, one year ago this weekend versus Quincy (10/9/2022). UIS has scored six goals in a game twice, and five goals in a game on seven occasions
  • UIS established a new DII shutout streak record with 6. The previous record was from 2018 when UIS shut out Maryville, Rockhurst, Indianapolis, and Lewis in consecutive games
  • The program's all-time shutout streak was eight in 1997
The 1993 National Championship team from the program's NAIA run was in attendance for the historical night at Kiwanis Stadium.
