UIS Wins Three Straight at Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team defeated three in-region opponents at Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover in Hammond, Ind. on Friday and Saturday. UIS picked up wins over Wayne State, Trevecca Nazarene, and Cedarville

UIS 3 | WSU 1
  • UIS pulled out a first set win, keeping it even much of the way and allowing the Wayne State Warriors to slip ahead just twice. The stanza ended as they often do, with a kill from junior outside hitter Eirini Glynou
  • The Prairie Stars found themselves trailing more often over the duration of the next set, then turned it around with a 9-1 run. UIS led 18-24 before two Warriors kills and a Prairie Stars attack error, eventually pulling off the win 25-21
  • WSU claimed the third set, pulling away after the teams were tied at 17 points to win by six
  • UIS closed the match with one of its most dominant set wins, 25-11
  • UIS totaled 12 service aces, compared to 4 by WSU. Ericka Snopko had four, Amanda McConnell tallied three, and three more Prairie Strars combined for the remaining five.
  • Macarena Flores and Ericka Snopko each had one solo block apiece
  • The Prairie Stars totaled 56 digs, compared to 48 by Wayne State
  • UIS improved to 6-10 as WSU fell to 5-13

  • UIS had a dominant start and finish against the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans on Friday night, but dropped the second set 25-23
  • A seven-point run in the first set included three kills by Eirini Glynou
  • The Trojans kept the Prairie Stars within striking range and made it a 1-1 match after a kill and two UIS attack errors
  • Set three went similarly, but the Prairie Stars pulled off the 25-23 set win before commanding a 25-16 final set
  • Eirini Glynou totaled 16 kills while Carly Michels had six. Erica Sledge contributed four aces to the defensive effort while three additional Prairie Stars had two
  • Amanda McConnell and Eirini Glynou had 19 digs apiece.
  • UIS improved to 7-10 as TNU fell to 9-13

Cedarville took off to an early 8-3 lead, UIS recovered but dropped the set by a margin of three points
  • UIS took the lead for the first time when a kill by Ericka Snopko put them ahead 11-10 in the second set, and would eventually take the set 25-21
  • The third set would be tied on eight occasions, eventually going to the Yellowjackets
  • UIS stunned Cedarville with a 7-2 start in set four, keeping the Yellowjackets four points outside of the lead for nearly the whole stanza
  • The final set was even through 11-11 before a kill by Eirini Glynou and two Cedarville attack errors
  • Maria Spengler totaled 22 kills and 21 digs, it was also a double-double for Eirini Glynou who has 21 kills and 11 digs
