Women’s Soccer Downs Quincy Hawks on the Road

The UIS women's soccer team defeated the Quincy Hawks on Sunday as seven Prairie Stars scored seven goals. UIS and Quincy entered the week as the #8 and #9 teams in the GLVC standings. The Prairie Stars improved to 3-3-3 (3-2 GLVC) with the win. 

Game Summary
  • UIS scored seven goals in a single game for the first time in just over a decade.
  • Dani Auble entered the game in the 34th minute and opened the scoring for the Prairie Stars in the 35th minute. (Assist: Katelynn Ward)
  • Katelynn Ward snuck in a goal of her own by the end of the first half from a corner by Emily Tully.
  • Madison Grandys applied the pressure with a shot on target at the start of the second half, but QU goalkeeper Eva Norris pulled off the save.
  • Grandys would make it a 3-0 game on a penalty kick just ten minutes later.
  • Abby Dellamorte scored her third goal of the season, Katelyn Cavanaugh had the assist.
  • The offensive onslaught did not stop, as UIS forced Eva Norris to make three saves in 45 seconds. Quincy pushed back, scoring on their fourth shot of the day in the 68th minute.
  • Abby Dellamorte assisted Sierra Cenek in the team's fifth goal. It was Cenek's 16th career goal.
  • Avery Harrison was able to stay onside as she scored her first career goal in the 83rd minute (Assist: Abby Dellamorte). Carolyne Mathenia followed with goal number seven (Assist: Katelynn Ward).
  • UIS outshot Quincy 10-1 in the first half, 17-5 over the second half.'
  • Starting goalkeeper Allison Mirimanian faced five shots and allowed one goal.
  • Jessi Young, a freshman goalkeeper from Ravensdale, Wash. saw the first minutes of her career.

  • McKendree is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches national poll.
  • Maryville and Drury went 2-0 in GLVC play this weekend, UIS went 1-0, Lewis and McKendree each picked up two draws.

The UIS women's soccer team will return to Springfield next weekend for its Homecoming game on Friday night against Southwest Baptist. The Prairie Stars will then play Drury on Sunday, Oct. 8 for their Breast Cancer Awareness game.
