The University of Illinois Springfield women's basketball team fell to McKendree on Saturday at TRAC by a 70-63 score. UIS led for just over 18 and a half minutes, and the game had a tied score for nine minutes. McKendree took the lead for the final time with four minutes on the clock.
Strong shooting allowed the Prairie Stars to lead for much of the first half, but McKendree's 27-point second quarter put them ahead before halftime. UIS responded by allowing the Bearcats to score just 7 points in the third quarter.
Two layups by the Bearcats took the lead from the Prairie Stars in the final four minutes. McKendree made eight of ten awarded free throws to take the win away from UIS.
Brianna Zajicek was the leading scorer for UIS with 28 points.
Liz Uhl was close behind with 16 points of her own. UIS outrebounded McKendree 33-30, with
Brianna Zajicek and
Saharra Murphy collecting 7 apiece.
The Prairie Stars are 2-19 overall and 2-11 in the GLVC with four weeks remaining in the regular season. UIS will play on the road next Saturday versus Lewis in Romeoville, Ill. for their only game of the week.
