Women's Soccer Falls To Nationally-Ranked McKendree

The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team fell to nationally-ranked McKendree on Sunday afternoon in Springfield, Ill. The Prairie Stars lost by a final score of 2-0.

UIS had the winds at its back in the first half, and the team was able to control most of the action on the McKendree side of the field. The Prairie Stars had four shots, including three on goal, but could not take advantage of the wind. The Bearcats then scored a goal late in the period for a 1-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, McKendree scored its second goal less than a minute into the period. With the Bearcats ahead by a pair of goals and having the wind, they were able to turn the game into a defensive battle, with just one more shot on goal for either team for the final 44 minutes of the game.

UIS finished with seven shots, compared to four for McKendree, and shots on goal were nearly even with the Prairie Stars having a 4-3 advantage. McKendree attempted five corner kicks, compared to one for UIS.

Katelyn Cavanaugh came off the bench and attempted two shots, with both on goal. Sierra Cenek also had two shots, with one on goal.

UIS falls to 4-4-2 on the season and 3-2-0 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars hit the road next week for a Friday game at Lewis.
