Volleyball Sweeps Saturday's Matches And Finishes Opening Tournament With 3-1 Record

The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team swept a pair of matches on Saturday in Oklahoma City, Okla., and finished the Eagles Classic with a 3-1 record. Its final two victories came over Arkansas Tech and Westminster.
 
UIS won the opener by scores of 25-19, 25-14, and 25-15. The Prairie Stars hit .327, while holding Arkansas Tech to just a .136 mark.
 
Angela Denney and Zanea Spencer combined for 30 kills in the match. Spencer had a .632 hitting percentage, while Denney hit over .300. Eirini Glynou had seven kills in the match, and also had two aces and one block to reach double-figure points. Regan Trueblood had 31 assists and two services aces. Marta Perez and Amanda McConnell each had a team-high 12 digs.
 
UIS concluded the tournament with a 25-11, 25-14, and 26-24 victory over Westminster. The Prairie Stars hit over .320 again, and had seven blocks. UIS also showed some fight after trailing 23-21 late in the third set. UIS scored five of the final six points for the come-from-behind win.
 
Denney hit .576 for the match, and had 21 kills, and Spencer was in double-figures again with 10. Denney also had three services aces, two blocks, and finished with 25.5 points. Regan Trueblood collected a double-double with 33 assists and 13 digs. Glynou and McConnell each had 11 digs, and Ericka Snopko finished with six blocks.
 
UIS will be back in action next weekend at the Hampton Inn Invitational in Kenosha, Wis.
