Baseball Falls In Game One Of NCAA Super Regionals

The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team fell in game one of the 2022 NCAA Division II Midwest Super Regional on Friday in Springfield, Ill. The Prairie Stars dropped the contest to Quincy by a 20-6 score.

The Hawks jumped out early, scoring 16 runs over the first four innings, including a five-run first inning. Quincy finished with a 20-10 edge in hits, and UIS also walked ten batters, compared to three for the Hawks.

UIS still had chances early to get in the game, but couldn't get a big hit to cut into the Hawks lead. Down 7-0 in the second, the Prairie Stars scored once and loaded the bases with one out. They could only get one more run though in the inning. Quincy took advantage by scoring four times in the third, and then essentially sealing the game in the fourth with five unearned runs.

Offensively, the Prairie Stars had a big day from Anthony Deconcilis, who had three hits, two runs, and two RBI. Asher Bradd had two hits and two RBI, and Kal Youngquist also recorded a pair of hits. Those three players, along with Zion Pettigrew, all had doubles in the game.

UIS falls to 46-9 on the season. Game two of the best-of-three series will start on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. If the Prairie Stars win, game three will follow 30 minutes at the conclusion of that game.
