Baseball Excels In All Areas In Win Over Missouri-St. Louis

The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team performed well offensively and defensively on Tuesday afternoon in a 10-1 non-conference victory over Missouri-St. Louis.
 
UIS never trailed in the game after scoring one run in the top of the first, and eventually building a 7-0 lead midway through the game. The Tritons got one run in the seventh, before the Prairie Stars tacked on three more in the ninth.
 
Anthony Deconcilis had two hits and four RBI, including a three-run homer in the fifth. Zion Pettigrew and Austin Alderman also homered. Alderman finished with three hits and two runs. Brandon Bannon and Kal Youngquist had two hits, and Pettigrew reached base four times after being walked in three plate appearances. Pettigrew and Nick Mayerhofer both had two runs.
 
On the mound, Seth Masters started and threw six innings. He allowed just two hits and one walk, and struck out nine in his scoreless appearance. Four relievers closed out the game and did not allow a hit over the final three innings. In all, UIS finished with 15 strikeouts, the team's fifth straight game with 13 or more.
 
UIS improves to 25-6 on the year. The Prairie Stars return home on Thursday for the start of a four-game GLVC series against Lewis.
