The University of Illinois Springfield softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Millikin on Sunday afternoon in Decatur, Ill. The Prairie Stars won by scores of 10-1 and 7-4.

In the opener, UIS broke open the game with a six-run fourth inning. The frame was capped off by a two-run homer by
Kayana Diederich. Diederich and
Taylor Zawacki each drove in two runs, and
Ashley Klinzing and
Danielle Dennis both scored twice.

On the mound,
Payton Long earned the win, throwing three innings and allowing just two hits.
Addyson McClure got the final six outs of the game.

In the second game, the two teams were tied at two until another big inning by the Prairie Stars. UIS scored five times in the fourth to take control of the game. Zawacki and
Carolyn Franke had back-to-back two-run doubles in that frame.

Zawacki finished game two with three doubles and three RBI. Franke and
Laney Gowin both had two hits.
Emma Garcia and Dennis each crossed home plate two times in the game. Diederich earned the win after going 4 2/3 innings in relief.

UIS improves to 6-1 on the season. The Prairie Stars are back in action next weekend at the Blue Bridge Battle in Owensboro, Ky.
