Men's Soccer Falls to Lake Erie in Third Round of NCAA Tournament

The UIS men's soccer team's season ended in an NCAA Tournament third-round game against Lake Erie College.

Max Tweddle scored a goal in the final minutes of the first half to tie the game 1-1. Terence Bynoe and Billy Nzojyibwami had the assist. UIS had twenty shots during the game, eight of which were shots on goal. Drew Keller and Billy Nzojyibwami had three a piece. 

Lake Erie scored with just seconds remaining in OT1. The game advanced to OT2, in which Billy Nzojyibwami was able to secure a goal on a penalty kick. The game then went to a shootout, in which Federico D'Andrea, Billy Nzojyibwami, Drew Keller, and Niccolo Ciceri made their shots. Four Lake Erie players also made their penalty kicks, and they secured their trip to the quarterfinals in the sixth round of penalty kicks.

UIS ends the season 7-4-8 overall and 5-1-7 in the GLVC. The Prairie Stars were were picked third in the 2022 GLVC Preseason Poll, and finished fifth in the GLVC after falling to No. 1 Maryville in the semifinal round of the GLVC Tournament. They took down Tiffin in the second round of the NCAA Tournament by making all five penalty kicks. Their third-round finish is equivalent to their NCAA Tournament third-round finish from 2021 which was the farthest UIS Men's Soccer had ever advanced in it's NCAA era.
