The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team ended its non-conference portion of the regular season on Tuesday afternoon with a 2-0 road victory over Parkside.
Â
UIS took control of the action about 1/3 of the way through the first half, and had four shots on goal in a 10-minute period. The fourth shot in that span found the back of the net as
Madison Grandys scored with an assist from
Angela Dagnino.
Â
Late in the first half, there was a lengthy rain delay, but it didn't hurt the Prairie Stars defense as they led 1-0 at halftime.
Â
Midway through the second half, the Rangers started getting more opportunities, including a shot on goal that
Allison Mirimanian had to make a save on in the 79th minute. UIS was able to turn the tables though and score an insurance goal in the 82nd minute.
Ally Lassetter passed it to
Sierra Cenek for the final goal of the game.
Â
UIS finished with a 16-13 advantage in shots, including an 8-5 lead on shots on goal. Mirimanian recorded her first collegiate shutout in goal, making five saves in the game.
Â
UIS improves to 2-0-1 on the year. The Prairie Stars start GLVC play this Sunday at noon with a game against Maryville at Lee Field in Springfield, Ill.
