The University of Illinois Springfield men's tennis team advanced to the GLVC Tournament Semifinals for the first time in program history on Friday. The Prairie Stars defeated No. 17 Drury by a 4-1 score in a contest between two teams battling for the final spot in the NCAA Regional Tournament.

UIS picked up the key doubles point to open up the match.
Menno Servaes and
Tomas Martinez won the No. 1 singles by a 6-3 margin, but Drury won No. 2 to even doubles up. At the No. 3 position,
Nick Revin and
Matthew Lapsley earned a 6-4 victory to give the Prairie Stars a 1-0 lead in the match.

Oscar Toro and Martinez extended that lead to 3-0 in singles play. Toro won his No. 6 match by scores of 6-4 and 6-0, and Martinez won the top flight by a 6-4 and 6-4 margin. Drury got its first point with a narrow win at No. 5 singles. Servaes though closed out the match at No. 2 with a three-set win, including a 6-1 victory in the deciding set.

UIS improves to 11-3 on the season with the win. The Prairie Stars advance to Saturday's semifinals where they will face No. 5 Indianapolis at noon.
