The No. 14 University of Illinois Springfield baseball team won its seventh straight game on Thursday afternoon at the UIS Baseball Field. The Prairie Stars won the opening game of the Missouri S&T series by a 10-6 margin.

UIS took a 4-1 lead after one inning, including back-to-back homers by
Kal Youngquist and
Chris Monroe. The Miners got within two twice after that, until the Prairie Stars finally pulled away with three runs in the eighth.

Offensively, Missouri S&T struggled against the top of the UIS lineup. The number two through five hitters combined for seven hits, seven RBI, and seven runs.
Brandon Bannon scored three times from the two spot.
Zion Pettigrew followed with two hits, two RBI, and two runs. Youngquist had a team-high three hits and three RBI. Monroe finished that stretch with two RBI. Also in the lineup,
Asher Bradd and
Bobby Barnard both had two hits and one run.

Cameron Zunkel was the top pitcher on the mound, and he got his second win of the season. He stranded the bases loaded in the fourth, and then threw three more innings of scoreless ball. He allowed just two hits, walked no one, and struck out two.
Cameron Leff also struck out two in one inning of scoreless relief.
