The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team could not get the bounce it needed on Sunday at Kiwanis Stadium as the Prairie Stars fell to Southern Indiana by a 1-0 score.
Â
The defensive battle saw just two shots on goal by both teams, and UIS having a narrow 10-9 advantage in total shots.
Â
The Prairie Stars controlled the majority of the possession early and it nearly paid off. Twice, UIS had quality shot attempts, with one hitting the post and another hitting the crossbar. Both times though, the bounce went Southern Indiana's way and stayed out of the goal.
Â
In the 36th minute of the game, the Screaming Eagles scored the game's only tally when they floated a shot from outside the box, and it got past the outstretched hands of the UIS goalie. In the second half, neither team attempted a shot on goal as Southern Indiana took advantage of its lead and won the possession battle for the period.
Â
UIS falls to 1-3-0 on the season. The Prairie Stars are in action again next Friday at Indianapolis.
