Men's Soccer Drops Overtime Contest At Quincy

The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer program dropped an overtime contest on Sunday in Quincy, Ill. The Prairie Stars lost to Quincy by a 2-1 margin.

UIS struck first in the contest in the 17th minute when Carlos Giron scored off an assist from Quentin Reese. Despite the Prairie Stars lead, Quincy took over the game in the second half. The Hawks outshot UIS by a 12-1 margin in that period, including a 7-0 mark in shots on goal. That effort paid off for Quincy when it tied the game in the 71st minute.

In overtime, UIS had a shot on goal just over two minutes in that was saved by the Quincy goalie. The Hawks were quickly able to flip the field and drew a foul just outside the penalty box. It then put in the game-winning goal in the bottom right corner of the goal off the free kick.

Lars Brinkman had a team-high three shots and three shots on goal for UIS. Pijus Petkevicius made six saves in goal.

UIS falls to 2-2-3 on the season. The Prairie Stars take on Truman State next Friday.
