Men's Soccer Falls To Indianapolis In Third Round Of NCAA Tournament

The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team saw the best season of its NCAA era come to an end on Thursday night in Indianapolis, Ind. The Prairie Stars fell to No. 7 Indianapolis by a 3-0 score in the third round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. 
 
UIS had several chances in the first 10 minutes of the game, but couldn't convert its three shots on goal in that span. Indianapolis took advantage by scoring the game's first goal in the 12th minute. The Prairie Stars finished the half with an 8-4 shot advantage, but trailed by one goal.
 
In the second half, the Prairie Stars were forced to push forward, leaving the Greyhounds with more opportunities to score. Indianapolis added goals in the 68th and 87th minutes to advance to the NCAA quarterfinals.
 
UIS ends the season with a 13-6-2 overall record, which was the most wins for the program since 2003. The Prairie Stars, who were picked ninth in the preseason GLVC poll, finished second and were also runner-up in the conference tournament. They earned their first NCAA Tournament bid, and captured their first NCAA postseason victory with a 2-1 win over Maryville in the second round of the event.
