The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team announced its 2021 schedule this afternoon. The Prairie Stars will have three non-conference contests, before starting its 36-game GLVC schedule.
Â
UIS opens up the year at home on March 6-8 with its three non-conference games. The Prairie Stars will take on Hillsdale on March 6 and March 8, and will have a non-GLVC game against Indianapolis on March 7.
Â
The conference format in 2021 will be the Prairie Stars playing nine four-game series against GLVC opponents. Each series will typically be one game on Friday, a doubleheader on Saturday, and a final single game on Sunday.
Â
UIS will host five weekends of baseball during GLVC action. The Prairie Stars are home the first week of the conference season on March 12-14 when Southern Indiana comes to the UIS Baseball Field. Other home series are against Missouri S&T, Rockhurst, William Jewell, and Quincy. The set against Quincy will come on the final week of the regular season on May 7-9.
Â
UIS will have four road series throughout the conference schedule at Lewis, Truman State, Drury, and Southwest Baptist.
Â
The top eight teams will advance to the GLVC Tournament, which will be held on May 13-16 on the campus of Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo. The Prairie Stars will be looking to advance to the NCAA postseason for the third consecutive time, and the NCAA Regionals will take place on May 20-22.
Â
UIS is coming off a 10-4 season in 2020 which was shortened due to COVID-19. The Prairie Stars return eight starting hitters from last year's team which led the nation in home runs per game, and was in the top-15 in scoring, batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage.
