Men's Tennis Drops Close Match At William Woods

The University of Illinois Springfield men's tennis team has been good this season in close matches, but its good luck ran out on Saturday at William Woods. The Owls were able to defeat the Prairie Stars by a 4-3 score.

The crucial doubles point in the contest went to William Woods after it won No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Menno Servaes and Tomas Martinez won the No. 1 spot by a 7-5 margin. UIS just lost the No. 2 position by an identical 7-5 score, and William Woods won the No. 3 match by a 6-3 final.

In singles, UIS won the odd number matches, and the Owls took the even matches. The contest was decided with the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches going to a third set, and UIS needing to win both. Rafa Rojas won his match by a 6-3 score in the third set, but William Woods captured No. 6 singles by a 6-2 margin.

Other singles winners for UIS were Servaes winning No. 1 by scores of 6-1 and 6-1, and Martinez winning at No. 3 by marks of 6-2 and 6-2.

UIS falls to 5-2 on the year. The Prairie Stars will play an exhibition at Lewis & Clark Community College on Monday.
