The University of Illinois Springfield softball team was swept in a pair of games on Saturday at the Dome invitational in Rosemont, Ill. The Prairie Stars lost their opener on the day to Ashland by a 6-5 score, and they fell to No. 3 Grand Valley State by an 8-1 margin.

Against Ashland, UIS had two-run leads twice in the game at 3-1 and 5-3, but Ashland scored the final three runs for the win.

Carly Chovanec had three hits, one run, and one RBI in the game.
Lakyn Wagoner had a pair of hits, scored twice, and stole four bases. Jill Mathis drove in two runners.

Against Grand Valley State, the Lakers jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four innings. UIS got one run back in the fifth, but Grand Valley State added two more insurance runs in the sixth.

Bree Derhake sparked UIS's run with a one-out double in the fifth. She advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on a Wagoner groundout.

UIS falls to 5-4 on the season. The Prairie Stars travel to Peoria next Friday for games with Winona State and Purdue Northwest.
