The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team split a pair of matches on day one of the Capital Classic, Presented by Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn Express. The Prairie Stars defeated Charleston, before falling to Winona State.

UIS won its season opener with a 25-19, 25-16, 25-19 victory over Charleston. The Prairie Stars hit .350 in the match, and held Charleston to a .129 mark.

Three Prairie Stars were in double-figure kills with
Hannah Nicolaisen and
Alli Splitt having 11, and
Megan Krasowski putting down 10.
Becca Blakeley had 38 digs, and
Jailyn Borum collected 21 assists. Splitt had a team-high 13 points and four blocks.

In the evening contest, UIS fell to Winona State by scores of 19-25, 13-25, 25-8, 15-25, and 10-15. Splitt led the team with 14 kills, and Krasowski had 12.
Brianna Bush had a team-high five blocks, Blakeley paced the squad with 34 assists, and Borum had 16 digs.

UIS is back in action on Saturday with an 11:30 p.m. match against Southern Indiana, and a 3 p.m. rematch against Winona State.
