The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team had one of its biggest challenges of the season on Sunday, travelling to the number six team in NCAA Division II. The Prairie Stars dropped the contest by a 3-0 score to Maryville.
 
Maryville outshot UIS by a 10-3 margin, including a 7-0 mark on shots on goal. Thiago Fernandes, Jay Younger, and Mario Gonzalez had the shots for the Prairie Stars.
 
The game saw just one goal in the first 75 minutes, as Maryville took an early lead in the 21st minute. The Saint then added two goals in the final 13 minutes to put the game out of reach.
 
UIS falls to 3-4-1 overall, and 1-3-1 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars return home next Friday for a contest against Quincy.
