Box Score 2 The University of Illinois Springfield tennis program opened its fall season by hosting the UIS Fall Invitational. The Prairie Stars had a good weekend, winning five of the ten brackets.

UIS won two brackets in the men's singles action. In the "B" bracket,
Matthew Lapsley went 4-0 to win that tournament. He defeated teammate
Rafa Rojas in an exciting finals that wasn't decided until a 10-8 tiebreaker score. In the "C" round-robin,
Philip Rydell won all three of his matches to capture the championship.

In the "B" doubles draw,
Alex Chan and Lapsley went 3-0 for the championship title. They won the doubles finals by an 8-5 margin.

On the women's side,
Lucia Pineiro made an impact in her first collegiate event by winning the "B" singles draw. She did not drop a set in four matches, and only lost 10 games. In the women's "B" doubles tournament, the team of
Maegan Flight and
Steph Reynolds went undefeated in three matches. They won their final two matches by just two points, including a 9-7 victory in the finals.

The women's team will be at the ITA Regional Tournament on Sept. 20-22, and the men's team will be at the ITAs on Sept. 27-29.
