The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team won its 14th straight game on Saturday afternoon at the UIS Baseball Field with a 6-1 non-conference victory over Eureka.
Â
UIS took the lead with a three-run third inning.
John Sechen started the rally with a one-out walk. Ryan Markham and
Zach Speaker also reached to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Sechen, and
Joe LaCivita plated the other two with a two-run double.
Â
UIS added single runs in the fourth, sixth, and seven innings, which was enough for the pitching staff. Eight pitchers combined to allow just six hits and one run.
Gunnar Kay pitched the first two innings, and allowed one run while striking three.
Ryan Jemar earned the win in relief.
Brendan Anderson,
Joe Dittmar,
Colton Thompson,
R.D. Lutze,
Trent Sidwell, and
Eddie Wilkins all pitched an inning in relief. The pitchers did not allow a run in the final five innings, and struck out 11 in the game.
Â
Sechen led the offense with two hits, a walk, one run, and one RBI. Speaker scored twice and hit a solo homer.
Â
UIS improves to 34-11-1 on the season. The Prairie Stars travel to Louisville, Ky. for a three-game series at Bellarmine. If UIS wins two or more games, it will win at least a share of the GLVC Regular Season Championship.
