The University of Illinois Springfield softball team saw its season come to an end on Sunday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo. when No. 13 Indianapolis defeated the Prairie Stars twice in the championship game of the NCAA Midwest Regional.
In the opening contest, UIS fell to Indianapolis by an 11-8 margin. The Prairie Stars led 4-2 after three innings, but Indianapolis broke through with nine runs over the next two innings.
UIS's offense had 11 hits in the game, including two each from
Calla Wickenhauser,
Morgan Edwards,
Addison Bryant, and
Kendra Peifer. Wickenhauser and Edwards each had a double, and Peifer hit a triple.
Grace Harris and Peifer each had two RBI, and
Addison Bryant scored twice.

In the second game, the Indianapolis offense was too much again in an 11-3 loss. The Prairie Stars led early by a 2-1 margin, but the Greyhounds broke the game open with three runs in the third and seven runs in the fourth.

Offensively, Harris led the way with two hits, one run, and one RBI.
Carolyn Franke, and Bryant also scored, and Cokel and Peifer had RBI.

UIS ends its season with a 29-26 overall record. The Prairie Stars reached the NCAA postseason for the second straight season, and advanced to the NCAA regional championship game for the third time in program history.
