The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team batted around in two straight innings on Tuesday afternoon in its home game against Lewis. The Prairie Stars offense led the team to a 17-3 victory against the Flyers.

The Prairie Stars were held scoreless for the first two inning, but broke through with a three-run third inning to take a 3-1 advantage. UIS added a two-run homer by
Brandon Bannon in the fourth, and broke the game open with 12 runs in the fifth and sixth innings. In those two frames, UIS had seven hit, seven walks, and two hit by pitches.

Bannon led the offense with three hits, three runs, and six RBI. He finished a triple shy of a cycle. Besides his homer, he also had a single that started the third-inning rally, a three-run double in the fifth, and he walked with the bases loaded in the sixth.

Zach Abfall all scored twice. Abfall,
Chris Mathieu, and Gilbert all had two RBI. Players with multiple hits were Markham,

Alex Altmyer earned the win, allowing one run and three hits in five innings.

UIS improves to 21-11-1 overall and 12-9 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars have a three-game series this weekend at McKendree.
