The University of Illinois Springfield softball team had 15 hits in 26 at-bats on Saturday, and the Prairie Stars defeated Davenport by a 15-3 score.
After a scoreless first inning, UIS scored three times in both the second and third innings. The Prairie Stars then broke the game completely open in the fourth with nine runs. In that inning, UIS had seven hits and took advantage of two Davenport errors. Davenport scored three times in the fifth inning, but a bases loaded double play ended the game by the eight-run rule.

Eight of the Prairie Stars' 14 hits came from the bottom three players in their lineup, and the trio of
Kendra Peifer,
Hunter Niebrugge, and
Natalie Cokel combined for eight hits, eight RBI, and five runs. Peifer and Niebrugge each had three hits and three RBI, and Peifer scored two times. Cokel had two hits, two runs, and two RBI.

Other offensive stars included
Calla Wickenhauser with two hits, two RBI, and two runs,
Carolyn Franke who drove in two runs, and
Morgan Edwards who scored twice.
Jaycee Craver earned the win on the mound, allowing four hits and two earned runs in 4 1/3 innings.
Payton Sturdy recorded the final two outs while facing just one batter.

Due to weather, Sunday's action at the Music City Invitational has been called off. The Prairie Stars finished the event with a 3-0 mark, and they scored 36 runs in the three victories.

UIS has now won six straight, and it is 6-2 on the season. The Prairie Stars will be in action again next weekend at the Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Ill.
