Men's Soccer Falls To Overtime In First Round Of GLVC Tournament

The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team was just seven minutes away from advancing to the GLVC Tournament Semifinals on Sunday in St. Louis, Mo. A late goal by No. 17 Maryville though forced overtime, where the Prairie Stars fell by a 2-1 score.

UIS took a 1-0 lead in the game's 21st minute. Harry Hiscock scored after getting a deflection from Javier Milla. Maryville controlled possession for most of the remainder of the game, as the Prairie Stars looked to hold on to that lead.

Maryville finally got the break it needed with a goal in the 84th minute that led to an extra period. Less than three minutes into overtime, the Saints scored the game-winner on a header off a corner kick.

Maryville had a 13-3 advantage in shots, including allowing just one after UIS's goal, and it led 6-3 in shots on goal. Maryville had six corner kicks in the game, compared to none for the Prairie Stars.

Pijus Petkevicius made four saves in goal for UIS. Hiscock led the team with a pair of shots on goal.

UIS ends its season with a 9-8-2 overall record. The Prairie Stars reached the GLVC Tournament for the third straight season, and tied a program record for most wins in their NCAA era.
