Men's Soccer Picks Up Important Road Victory On Friday

The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team earned a needed victory on Friday night in Liberty, Mo. The Prairie Stars scored early in the game, and ended up with a 2-0 win over William Jewell.

Quentin Reese got the early tally for UIS with a goal in the 7th minute. Adrian Ortega and Evan Paoni earned assists on the goal. Both teams had just one shot on goal for the rest of the half, and the Prairie Stars led 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half, William Jewell had three shots in the first 16 minutes, but two missed the net and the other was saved by Pijus Petkevicius. Javier Milla then gave UIS an insurance goal after receiving an assist from Mario Falsone and scoring in the 62nd minute. The Prairie Stars defense did the rest, not allowing a shot on goal the rest of the way.

Petkevicius earned his 12th career shutout, including his fourth of the season. He made two saves in the contest. Drew Keller had a team-high three shots in the game.

UIS improves to 6-7-2 overall and 4-6-2 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars will face Rockhurst on Sunday afternoon in Kansas City, Mo.
