Men's Tennis Ends Fall Season With Two Victories On Friday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The University of Illinois Springfield men's tennis team finished its fall season on Friday with a pair of home wins over Olivet Nazarene and Lindenwood-Belleville.

The Prairie Stars defeated Olivet Nazarene by a 4-1 score. UIS dropped the doubles point after winning just one match. Alex Chan and Philip Rydell won the No. 3 match by a score of 7-5.

The Prairie Stars bounced back to win all four singles matches that were completed. Matthew Lapsley got the team on the board first with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles. Menno Servaes, at No. 1, and Rafa Rojas, at No. 4, also won in straight sets. The match ended after Chan won in three sets, taking the final one by a 6-3 margin. Oscar Toro was also ahead big at No. 6 but the match was unfinished.

Against Lindenwood-Bellville, UIS won by a 4-0 margin. UIS won both doubles matches that were played, and won the No. 3 doubles by forfeit. Tomas Martinez and Servaes won at No. 1, and Chan and Rydell were victorious at No. 2.

Lindenwood-Belleville had to forfeit two singles matches as well, meaning UIS needed just one singles win for the team victory. Rydell won his first set at No. 4 singles, and then clinched the victory when his opponent retired. Martinez and Lapsley both won their first set, but didn't finish their matches.

UIS ends its fall season with a 3-0 duals record.
