Ferris State Blanks UIS

Ferris State University blanked the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's soccer team with a 2-0 victory on Tuesday at Hammond, Ind.

"We knew going in that Ferris State was going to be a good team," UIS coach Erin Egolf said. "When you go down a goal that early in the game, it's going to be tough to get yourself back into the game."

Pia Nagel put Ferris State (4-1) on the board four minutes into the match. She situated herself inside the box and capitalized off a pass from Carley Dubbert.

"We woke up a little bit after the goal and competed very well. We created some chances and Paloma [Guijarro] and made some great saves in goal to keep us in the game."

Brandi Wagner took a pass from Tia Vansuilichem, fired a shot from the top left of the box and found the inside right post for the score during the 74th minute.

Each of the six shots for UIS (0-2-2) were on goal. Kayla Meyer provided three shots while Amanda Meyer, Ally Fischer and Sam Christensen contributed one shot apiece.

Paloma Guijarro faced 13 shots and came up with a career-high 11 saves.

Alison Chesterfield recorded a shutout, saving each of the six shots she faced.

Ferris State outshot UIS by a 25-to-6 margin and held a 13-to-6 advantage in shots on goal.

"It's never easy to lose, but I think we put a solid performance together through [Tuesday's] 90 minutes."

UIS squares off with Maryville University (1-0-2) on Friday at 5 p.m. at Kiwanis Stadium to open Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play.

"I'm excited to open conference play on Friday and I'm looking forward to seeing what our team can do."

The Prairie Stars then clash with Rockhurst University (1-2-1) for a conference matchup on Sunday at 12 p.m. in Kansas City, Mo.
