Ferris State University blanked the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's soccer team with a 2-0 victory on Tuesday at Hammond, Ind.

"We knew going in that Ferris State was going to be a good team," UIS coach
Erin Egolf said. "When you go down a goal that early in the game, it's going to be tough to get yourself back into the game."

Pia Nagel put Ferris State (4-1) on the board four minutes into the match. She situated herself inside the box and capitalized off a pass from Carley Dubbert.

"We woke up a little bit after the goal and competed very well. We created some chances and Paloma [Guijarro] and made some great saves in goal to keep us in the game."

Brandi Wagner took a pass from Tia Vansuilichem, fired a shot from the top left of the box and found the inside right post for the score during the 74th minute.

Each of the six shots for UIS (0-2-2) were on goal.
Kayla Meyer provided three shots while
Amanda Meyer,
Ally Fischer and
Sam Christensen contributed one shot apiece.

Paloma Guijarro faced 13 shots and came up with a career-high 11 saves.

Alison Chesterfield recorded a shutout, saving each of the six shots she faced.

Ferris State outshot UIS by a 25-to-6 margin and held a 13-to-6 advantage in shots on goal.

"It's never easy to lose, but I think we put a solid performance together through [Tuesday's] 90 minutes."

UIS squares off with Maryville University (1-0-2) on Friday at 5 p.m. at Kiwanis Stadium to open Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play.
