Mefford Breaks Single-Game Rebounding Record in Win against Eagles

University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's basketball sophomore Brianna Mefford broke the school's single-game rebounding record by pulling down 20 boards during Monday's 104-40 victory against Robert Morris University-Springfield at TRAC.
 
The Lawrenceville native also finished with 10 points for the Prairie Stars (3-5).
 
UIS led Robert Morris-Springfield (4-9) 27-6 after the first quarter and 48-14 at halftime. The Prairie Stars extended their lead to 78-29 after three quarters and outscored the Eagles 26-11 in the fourth quarter. At 104 points, UIS tied for third for most points scored in a single game in school history.
 
Ellie Mitchell put together a career night by powering to 26 points while converting 10-of-14 (71.4 percent) shots from the field to lead UIS. The freshman from Owensboro, Ky. also collected nine rebounds.
 
Val Meissner tallied 19 points and three steals. Lauren Ladowski contributed 17 points, five assists, four steals, while draining each of her seven free-throw attempts. Tehya Fortune scored 16 points. Chasitee Shroyer produced nine points, four assists and three steals. Lanie Hicks turned in four points. Gabrielle Sanders totaled two points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots. Carson Vance rounded out the UIS scoring effort with one point.
 
The Prairie Stars finished with 19 steals, which is tied for third in school history and is one shy of tying the single-game school record. Robert Morris-Springfield turned the ball over 23 times while UIS committed 13 turnovers.
 
UIS outrebounded Robert Morris-Springfield 61-32. At 61 rebounds, UIS tied for fourth among single-game rebound performances in school history.
 
E'Lexus Murrell paced the Eagles with 20 points, six steals and two blocked shots. She hit 11-of-14 (78.5 percent) shots from the charity stripe. Breanna May provided 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
 
The Prairie Stars knocked down 38 field goals, which is the tied for fifth for most in a single game in school history. UIS drained 38-of-79 (48.1 percent) shots from the floor and 13-of-25 (52 percent) attempts from 3-points range.
 
Robert Morris-Springfield made 12-of-55 (21.8 percent) shots from the field and 1-of-10 (10 percent) attempts from the perimeter.
 
UIS drained 15-of-20 (75 percent) attempts from the free-throw line while Robert Morris-Springfield sank 15-of-23 (65.2 percent) shots.
 
The Prairie Stars take on Missouri Southern State University (7-3) on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Joplin, Mo.
