Prairie Stars Volleyball Stays Alive For GLVC Regular Season Championship

The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team stayed alive for a GLVC Championship on Friday night in Evansville, Ind. with a 3-1 win over Southern Indiana. The Prairie Stars set a new program record for most victories during their NCAA era with the 25-22, 23-25, 25-16, and 25-12 win.
 
After the two teams split a pair of close sets to start the match, UIS used its defense to pull away in the final two sets. The Prairie Stars allowed just 14 kills in sets three and four, while forcing 22 hitting errors. For the match, the Screaming Eagles hit just .021 with 39 kills and 35 hitting errors.
 
Taylor Bauer led UIS with 13 kills, followed by Alli Splitt with 12. Megan Krasowski and Rachel Cobert both just missed double-doubles with double-figure digs and nine and eight kills, respectively. Tiffany Wentworth did have a double-double with 45 assists and 14 digs. Jailyn Borum collected 35 digs, and Brianna Bush and Splitt each led the team with six blocks.
 
UIS can claim a share of the GLVC Championship on Saturday if it wins its regular season finale at Bellarmine. The title would be the first in program history for the Prairie Stars.
 
The Prairie Stars won their 23rd match of the season, breaking last year's record of 22. UIS is now 23-6 on the season, and 14-3 in GLVC action.
