The University of Illinois Springfield men's golf team finished in the top half of the standings at the Midwest Regional on Monday and Tuesday at Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka, Mo.

UIS tied for eighth as a team in the 18-team event. The Prairie Stars shot rounds of 300 and 306 for a final score of 6060. They were within 10 shots of a top-five finish in a field that was tightly packed in the middle. UIS was third among the field with 108 pars over two days, and it also had 21 birdies.

Steffen Heckele led the way for UIS by tying for 15th-place with a two-round score of 148. He shot under par during the first round with a 71, which included four birdies. Heckele finished with six birdies, tying for the team-high and just two shy of the tournament leaders. He was one of 11 players in the field to shoot even par or better on the par-three holes.

Jaime Kreisler was second on the team and 31st overall after shooting a 151. He led the team with 26 pars during his 36 holes, which was fourth-best in the field.

Rounding out the team scoring was
Daniel Miller with a 153,
Sebastian Trujillo with a 154, and
Daniel Nyman with a 158.
Louis Bagur participated as an individual, and carded a 161.

UIS will be in action again on Oct. 22-23 at the McKendree Fall Invitational.
