UIS Men’s Soccer Finishes Third in GLVC standings

The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) men's soccer team finished the regular-season third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) standings following Wednesday's 1-0 loss to Quincy University at Kiwanis Stadium.
 
Aubrey Reis provided a strong opportunity for the Hawks (8-8-2, 7-4-2) 29 minutes into the match, but his shot went just high of the goal.
 
Kingsford Adjei delivered a goal from in front of the net after capitalizing off a pass from Kyle Fraser 63 minutes into the match.
 
The Prairie Stars (9-5-3, 8-3-2) saw a strong equalizing opportunity 73 minutes into the match. Andrew Mullican set up Mario Falsone for a one-on-one situation, but Quincy's Adam Whybrow came up with the save.
 
Daniel Kemp led the Prairie Stars with three shots and two shots on goal. Alexander Gonzalez provided two shots and Falsone registered a shot on goal. Harry Hiscock, Alex Morais, Javier Milla and Dan Mahony each added shots.
 
Reis fired four shots and Adjei delivered three shots. Kyle Fraser turned in two shots while Simon Chretien, Alec Roussin, Justin Armfield, Ty Rogers and Max Chretien each added shots.
 
UIS's Pijus Petkevicius saved one of the two shots he faced.
 
Whybrow contributed a three-save shutout for the Hawks.
 
Quincy outshot UIS by a 14-10 margin, but UIS held a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal.
 
Bellarmine University (10-5-1, 9-3-1) jumped into second in the conference standings. after pulling out a 3-2 double overtime victory against the University of Indianapolis (12-4-1, 8-4-1). UIS held the head-to-head tiebreaker against Maryville University (9-4-3, 8-3-2) for third from UIS's 1-0 victory against Maryville. Indianapolis fell to fifth with the loss while McKendree University (10-5-1, 8-4-1) closed out sixth.
 
The Prairie Stars host a GLVC quarterfinal match against McKendree on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Kiwanis Stadium.
