Prairie Stars Take Down Tritons with Quick Start, Clinch GLVC Tournament Berth

The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) men's soccer team took down the University of Missouri-St. Louis with a quick start for a 2-0 victory during Friday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup at Kiwanis Stadium.
 
UIS (8-4-3, 7-2-2) clinched a berth to the GLVC Tournament for the second-consecutive season. The Prairie Stars also maintain second place in the GLVC standings. At eight wins on the season, UIS matched the program since becoming a Division II program.
 
Mario Falsone provided two goals for the Prairie Stars. The junior forward from Edinburgh, Scotland ranks second in UIS Division II history in career goals (12) and career points (31). Among UIS Division II single-season leaders, Falsone is tied for fifth in points (12) and tied for 10th in goals (4).
 
During the fourth minute of the match, Javier Milla passed the ball back to Harry Hiscock. Hiscock one-timed the pass to create a one-on-one situation for Falsone and Falsone finished the goal.
 
The Prairie Stars made a drive during the 12th minute. Daniel Kemp delivered a cross to Rory Carlson. Carlson redirected the cross to Falsone in front of the goal. Falsone one-time the pass for a goal.
 
Rhys Wallace delivered a cross into the box for UIS 13 minutes into the match, but UIS just missed the play.
 
During the 43rd minute, UMSL's Aldin Sabotic served a pass to Jake Meyerkord, but Meyerkord's header went to the right of the goal.
 
Donald Link served a pass inside the box 53 minutes into the match, but the Tritons just missed the play.
 
UIS created a run 67 minutes into the match. Fernando Sanz de Galdeano contributed a shot, but UMSL's Nedin Kudic sent the shot away for a save.
 
Falsone paced the Prairie Stars with four shots, including two shots on goal. Fernando Sanz de Galdeano provided three shots, including one shot on goal. Kemp turned in two shots with one shot on target. Adrian Ortega and Quentin Reese each registered shots on goal. Carlson, Alex Morais, Wallace, Josh Moore, Emmanuel Nhonga, Alexander Gonzalez and Ahmadou Ndiaye each added shots.
 
Mark Skrivan and Dom Barczewski each put together two shots with one shot on target for the Tritons. Nick Harper and Link produced two shots apiece. Max Wootten, Meyerkord and Samed Ganibegovich each contributed shots.
 
Pijus Petkevicius pitched a two-save shutout for the Prairie Stars.
 
Kudic saw six shots and came up with four saves for the Tritons.
 
UIS outshot the Tritons 18-11 and held a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.
 
The University of Southern Indiana (11-2-1, 9-1-1), ranked No. 16 in the latest United Soccer Coaches (USC) NCAA Division II poll, leads the GLVC by one and one-half games. Trailing UIS by a half game in a three-way tie for third are Bellarmine University (8-5-1, 7-3-1), McKendree University (9-4-1, 7-3-1) and the University of Indianapolis (11-3-1, 7-3-1).
 
SENIOR NIGHT
UIS honored Ahmed Mohamed, Moore, Andrew Mullican, Ahmadou Ndiaye, Wallace and Alex Zarco for Senior Night.
 
Last season, Wallace become the first player in program history to receive second-team all-GLVC honors. Among UIS Division II career leaders, Wallace is tied for second in game-winning goals (4), tied for eighth in goals (7) and ranks ninth in points (17).
 
Moore has competed in 44 career matches, started in 23 career matches. He has dished out five career assists, which is tied for fourth in UIS Division II history.
 
Zarco has competed in 28 career matches and started in 12. He has notched six career points off two goals and two assists.
 
Mullican has competed in 49 career matches and started in six. He provided an assist against Saint Joseph's University as a sophomore.
 
Ndiaye has competed in 25 career matches and Mohamed has competed in four career matches.
