Box Score ST. LOUIS, MO --- The University of Illinois Springfield (7-4) volleyball team took down perennial NAIA powerhouse Missouri Baptist (15-3) on the road in a non-conference affair Tuesday night. The Prairie Stars picked up their second straight five-set win in the process, coming off a GLVC win over Quincy on Saturday.
"I thought we came prepared to battle and with a good game strategy," said head coach
Trey Salinas. "Some of our in game adjustments were slow to come around but did so at the most opportune time for us. Missouri Baptist is a tough team that was physical and made great adjustments but our block put in a lot of work tonight and we are proud that this team is relentless and never gives up."
The Spartans are currently ranked #10 in the nation in the NAIA and made the National Championship as recently as 2015. Since 2015, the Spartans have an overall record of 83-19.
The Prairie Stars took the opening set 25-22 before falling by the same score in the second set. UIS held a 20-18 advantage but the Spartans were able to make a comeback to even the match at a set a piece.
UIS bounced back with a win in the third set by a score of 25-20 before dropping the fourth 25-16.
The Prairie Stars won their second match in their last three by taking the fifth and decisive set 15-10 and improving their overall record to 7-4.
