SPRINGFIELD, IL --- Illinois Springfield had seven teams honored by the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) for their academic achievement this past year. In order to garner the GLVC Team Academic All-Conference honor, a team must maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 for the entire academic year.
Illinois Springfield had seven teams meet the 3.30 GPA threshold, helping the GLVC to their largest class of Team Academic honorees in the conferences' history, which recognized 144 teams.

AROUND THE GLVC
There were a total of 108 women's teams and 36 men's teams tabbed with the honor, an increase of three and four, respectively, from a year ago.
Women's soccer had the most teams honored, with 15 of the 16 member institutions holding above a 3.30. Volleyball had 14 of the 16 members reach the mark, while women's tennis saw 13 of the 14 members garner the academic recognition.
On the men's side, UIS had both men's tennis and men's cross country recognized. Across the GLVC, men's tennis tied for the most honorees with eight while cross country tied for fourth with four teams.
As was the case with five other institutions --- the most in the league --- women's tennis held the highest GPA at UIS with a 3.70.
A total of 144 teams were honored this year, surpassing the previous conference record of 137, which was set last year. Â
During the 2016-17 academic year, UIS set a department record with a 3.30 cumulative GPA across the 17 intercollegiate sports.
