Prairie Stars Clinch GLVC Tournament Berth with Sweep of William Jewell

SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars (31-21, 17-11) moved their winning streak to 11 games with a sweep of William Jewell in their first home game since April 4th. UIS won the first game 6-2 before opening up game two with a four-run first inning and running to a 10-1 victory. The current winning streak is the longest in program history.

GAME ONE: ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 6, WILLIAM JEWELL 2
Both starting pitchers were having their way with the opposing lineups over the course of the first four innings. Ali Haesele had surrendered just three hits through four, while UIS mustered just two hits, both coming in the first inning. That all changed in the fifth though, as UIS opened up for six runs to break the game open.

Katie Wooldridge began the inning with a single and was then lifted for pinch runner, Haley Inman. A single from Haesele put runners at first and second before a sacrifice from Madi Torry and walk to Amanda Gosbeth loaded the bases. Lakyn Wagoner drove home the first run of the game with an RBI single with another run coming home on an error.

Back-to-back walks scored another for UIS before Alexa Brown roped a single down the right field line to score two more. BriAnna Edgar plated the final run of the inning with an RBI groundout, making the score 6-0.

William Jewell came back with two runs in the top of the next inning but Haesele shut the door in the seventh, retiring the Cardinals 1-2-3 to secure the 6-2 victory. Haesele picked up her 17th win of the season, throwing a complete-game and allowing just six hits while striking out seven.

Haesele and Brown each had two hits in the first game while six different Prairie Stars crossed the plate.

GAME TWO: ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 10, WILLIAM JEWELL 1
Unlike the first game, UIS jumped out early, scoring four runs in the first to take control of the game. Haesele doubled on the seventh pitch of the first at-bat before Torry laid down a bunt single in the next at-bat. An RBI groundout from Wagoner put UIS up 1-0 before three straight errors helped UIS plate the next three runs.

In the second, Haesele led off with another single and Torry again laid down a bunt single before two passed balls plated both runners, putting UIS up 6-0.

UIS took a 7-0 lead in the third on an RBI single from BriAnna Edgar, while Jaycee Craver allowed just one baserunner through the first three innings.

William Jewell plated their only run in the fourth but Craver struck out the final batter of the inning to limit the damage.

In the bottom of the fourth, Morgan Edwards blasted her sixth homerun of the season, a three-run moonshot over the scoreboard, putting UIS up 10-1.

Craver put the Cardinals down in order one last time in the final inning to secure the Prairie Stars 11th straight win. Allowing just one run on four hits, Craver struck out six and walked none in the complete-game victory.

???????Haesele and Torry had two hits each and both scored twice along with Edwards and Erin Stroup.

UIS clinched a berth to the GLVC Tournament with the sweep, securing at least the sixth seed but could move up depending on the rest of the weekend.
