SPRINGFIELD, IL – Cole Buehnerkemper did was he has done best over the last four years, and won both his matches over Missouri Baptist in an 8-1 win over the NAIA opponent on senior day. Buehnerkemper closed the chapter on home matches in his four year career with an 8-6 doubles victory and 6-2, 6-4 win in singles to help UIS win on their final home match of the season.
UIS began the day with three wins in doubles play, beginning with Buehnerkemper and Logan Burgess-Hayes taking an 8-6 victory in doubles.
Sam Clarke and
David Perez followed with an 8-4 victory at number two while Grand Fitzsimmons and
Parker Featherston won 9-7.
Featherston, the second senior on this years team, won his singles match 7-5, 6-2 to close out his career at Washington Park. Clarke led the way for UIS with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the top slot while Buehnerkemper took his match 6-2, 6-4 to win his 116
th career match between singles and doubles, a UIS Division II record.
Burgess-Hayes won in the third slot 6-4, 7-5 while Perez bounced his opponent 6-0, 7-6.
UIS closed the home portion of their schedule with an 8-1 victory and stopped a seven match slide with the victory. UIS will compete at Bellarmine University in their final GLVC match of the season on April 14
th before closing the season against Hanover and Eastern Illinois the following weekend.
