SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars (5-10, 1-4) snapped a seven-match slide with a dominate 8-1 victory over St. Joseph's on Saturday. This win concluded a GLVC weekend in which they fell to Lewis University 2-7 the day before.
On Friday, the Prairie Stars took on Lewis in Romeoville, Illinois and after dropping all three doubles matches, came back to take two of the final six singles games.
Sam Clarke and
David Perez fell 8-6 while
Christian Timm and
Parker Featherston dropped their match 8-5.
In singles, Logan Burgess-Hayes and Timm each picked up victories in the third and sixth slots, respectively. Burgess-Hayes won 7-5, 6-4 while Timm pulled off a three-set win 2-6, 6-4, 1-0.
The other four singles matches went to the Flyers in straight sets as
Cole Buehnerkemper and
Sam Clarke played in the top two slots while Perez and
Riley Muren were four and five.
On Saturday, UIS flipped the script with an 8-1 victory over St. Joseph's for their first GLVC win of the season. The Prairie Stars took two of three in doubles play, led by Burgess-Hayes and Buehnerkemper who won 8-3 at number one. UIS picked up a forfeit win in the third slot.
In singles, Clarke played number one and won 6-2, 6-3 while Buehnerkemper cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win. Burgess-Hayes and Perez both won 6-1, 6-1 while Featherston won 6-0, 6-1.
UIS snapped a seven match losing streak with the win and will now turn their attention to Missouri Baptist for a non-conference match on Wednesday, April 12
th. This will serve as senior day for the Prairie Stars and will be set for a 12:00 pm first serve at Washington Park.
