SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars (4-9, 0-3) suffered a 9-0 defeat to the University of Indianapolis in Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Washington Park. Illinois Springfield struggled to get anything going against the Greyhounds in their fourth consecutive home match.
UIS got down 3-0 after doubles as the duo of Logan Burgess-Hayes and
Cole Buehnerkemper fell 8-4, as did
Sam Clarke and
David Perez.
Christian Timm and
Parker Featherston dropped their match 8-2 in the third spot.
In singles play, Buehnerkemper fell 6-1, 6-0 at number one while Clarke got things going in the second set but feel 6-0, 6-4. Burgess-Hayes rallied from down 5-0 in the second set to force a tie-breaker but ultimately dropped the match 6-4, 7-6.
Perez battled in both his sets, dropping 6-4, 6-3 while Featherston and Muren each went down in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
UIS will play NAIA opponent Missouri Baptist in their final home match of the season, before going on the road for their final five matches. The match will begin at 11 AM at Washington Park and will serve as Senior Day for both Buehnerkemper and Featherston.
