SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars (4-4) opened the home portion of their spring season, hosting Hillsdale College (4-4). Illinois Springfield dropped the match 6-3 after taking two of the three doubles matches to begin the day.
Cole Buehnerkemper and Logan Burgess-Hayes won in the top spot, defeating their opponent 8-2.
Sam Clarke and
David Perez erased a 5-2 deficit to come back and win 8-5 to put UIS up 2-1 after the doubles portion.
Riley Muren and
Christian Timm were defeated 8-2 in the third match.
In singles play, Burgess-Hayes led the way for UIS with a three-set victory out of the fourth slot. After dropped the first set, 0-6, Burgess-Hayes came back to win the final two sets 6-2, 6-2 for the win. Unfortunately, he was the lone Prairie Star to take a singles match as Clark fell 4-6, 3-6 in the top spot and Buehnerkemper fell 4-6, 2-6 at number two.
Perez was bested 0-6, 2-6 at number three while both Muren and
Grant Fitzsimmons dropped a tie-break in the first set and went on to fall in straight sets.
UIS will head on the road during spring break, traveling to Cumberland University (TN), Carson-Newman College, and Lincoln Memorial on the 13
th, 15
th, and 16
th of March. The Prairie Stars will return home on March 18
th to face Missouri-St. Louis at Washington Park.
