SPRINGFIELD, IL --- After defeating William Jewel 5-2 on Saturday, the Prairie Stars had no answers on the road Sunday as they lost a tough match against Rockhurst University 8-1. The Prairie Stars are now 3-2 on the season.

In the opening match, the Prairie Stars won two out of the three matches in doubles play.
Logan Burgess Hayes and
Cole Buehnerkemper fell short in the first match 8-4, but
Sam Clarke and
David Perez made a comeback for the Prairie Stars winning the next match 8-6. The success continued as
Parker Featherston and
Christian Timm won their doubles match 8-2.

In singles play, Illinois Springfield dominated winning three out of the four matches. Sophomore
Sam Clarke won his match out of the first spot in straight sets (7-5, 7-5).Â
Cole Buehnerkemper had a little challenge in his match. The senior won his first set 6-4, but lost the second set 5-7. Buehnerkemper finished out the match with a 10-7 victory in the last set to win the match.

In the third spot, Logan Burgee-Hayes lost his match in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, but freshmen
David Perez playing in the fourth spot closed out the 5-2 victory by winning 6-4, 6-3.

Due to the time, two of the matches were unfinished and was not able to go on for the day.

Rockhurst defeated the Prairie Stars winning 8-1 to close out the weekend. The Hawks swept singles play, not allowing the Prairie Stars a single match. In doubles,
Sam Clarke and
David Perez snuck an 8-5 victory in the second spot for the Prairie Stars. There was no answer for the Hawks as they went on to win the next two matches.

The Prairie Stars will look to bounce back this Saturday as the travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to face Coe College at 9 am.
