ROSEMONT, IL --- The Prairie Stars (5-6) fell to Walsh University (1-3) to close out the Dome Invitational by a score of 1-0. Walsh pushed across a run in the top of the first and that proved to be the difference maker in the game.
Ali Haesele threw a gem, throwing a complete game, surrendering just the one run on four hits while striking out eight.
In the top of the first, Haesele walked the leadoff batter who advanced to second on a bunt. With two outs, Walsh singled up the middle, but
Alexa McClaughry threw a strike to home, beating the runner. However, the ball was dislodged from the catcher,
Hunter Niebrugge's glove, pushing across the would be lone run of the game.
Haesele allowed leadoff hits in the second and third but struck out the side in the second and worked around the jam in the third as well.
UIS got their first hit in the fourth inning off the bat of
Erin Stroup, who stole second but was stranded with two outs.
BriAnna Edgar had herself a day, as she doubled to center in the fifth with one out. This was after a long line drive out to center in her first at-bat. She backed that up with a two-out single to center in the seventh, putting the tying run on for the Prairie Stars.
UIS ends the Dome Invitational with a 1-4 record, beating Findlay on the second day for the lone win. The Prairie Stars will open up at home next weekend when they host Saginaw Valley for a four-game series beginning on Friday at 2 PM.
