Prairie Stars Split on the Road at Cedar Rapids

SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars suffered an early defeat Saturday morning on the road this past weekend but did not let the loss stop their success on the weekend. Dominate singles action from the Prairie Stars earned them a win in the second match Saturday afternoon against Wartburg after falling to #35 (Division III) Coe College.
 
ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 3, #35 COE COLLEGE 6
Nationally ranked Coe College took control over the Prairie Stars in the singles competition. Sam Clarke lost his match in the first spot in straight sets (6-0. 6-1). Illinois Springfield regained momentum in the singles matches when Cole Buehnerkemper won his match in the second spot in straight sets (7-5, 6-2). Freshman David Perez continued the little success for the Prairie Stars in the singles competition winning his match in straight sets as well (6-3, 6-2).

#35 Coe College put their foot on the pedal and never looked back. The Kohawks won the rest of the singles competition in straight sets taking a 4-2 lead overall on the Prairie Stars.

The Kohawks continued their winning ways in the doubles competition. Cole Buehnerkemper and Logan Burgees-Hayes stole the first match for the Prairie Stars winning 8-4, but that wasn't enough to hold off the Kohawks. #35 Coe College took the last two doubles win giving them the victory over the Prairie Stars 6-3.
 
ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 7, WARTBURG COLLEGE 2
Illinois Springfield rested for a few hours on Saturday before completing their double header of the day against Wartburg college. In singles competition, the Prairie Stars swept the opponent in a dominant fashion. UIS won all of the singles competition in straight sets taking an early 6-0 lead overall.

The Prairie Stars struggled a bit in doubles competition losing 8-6 in the first spot and 8-6 in the third spot. David Perez and Sam Clarke added another win to their 3-1 record on the season. Perez and Clarke won their match 8-1, which solidified the Prairie Stars 7-2 win over the Wartburg College Knights.
 
The Prairie Stars will be off for two weeks before their next match. UIS will resume play March 4th at home against Hillsdale College.
