KIRKSVILLE, MO --- The Prairie Stars (10-6, 4-3) went on the road and collected a road win at Truman State (6-10, 2-5) in a midweek Great Lakes Valley Conference match-up. The Prairie Stars swept the Bulldogs 25-20, 25-22, 25-22 to pick up their first win over Truman State in program history.
Down 11-12 in the opening set, a 4-0 run for the Prairie Stars set the tone and pushed UIS to a 15-12 lead, which they never surrendered. Truman State put together two separate 3-0 runs but could never regain the lead as the Prairie Stars took the opening set 25-20, ending the set on a kill from
Brianna Bush.
Truman State jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second set but UIS put together runs of four straight points and three straight points to bring the deficit to just one. However, UIS then put together a 6-0 run, including an ace from Bush, to take a 21-17 lead and cruise to a 25-22 win in the second set.
The third set saw UIS use a 5-0 run to open up a 22-16 lead and then trade points, ending in a kill from
Taylor Bauer, to close out the sweep.
Taylor Bauer led the way with 14 kills and no errors on 27 total attacks. The 14 kills tied her season and career high for UIS and her zero errors on 27 attacks were the most attacks without an error at UIS.
Bush added nine kills and three aces for UIS while
Jailyn Borum added seven kills against just one error.
Courtney Schutt had a team-high 25 digs while
Alli Splitt added three aces as well.
Tiffany Wentworth directed the offense with 36 assists, the most for the junior setter this season.
UIS will return home on Friday night to take on Missouri-St. Louis and then again on Saturday to face McKendree in inter-division match-ups.
